Pacing & Story-boarding
By the time students reach the "pacing" section of this unit, they should have a good understanding of authors' use of D.A.D. - Description, Action, & Dialogue - and how different authors space things out differently, how many authors mix description and action seamlessly.

Storyboarding helps them prepare to put their own pieces together.

I use a Google Drawing storyboard that
works seamlessly with our LMS. Students can
either draw images or find ones online for the
illustration element, and they can explain what's
going on in the text box below each image.

Students are asked to think along this narrative structure:

Note: That doesn't mean that students only need 5 boxes on
the storyboard. They might plan out two boxes - one for
setting description and one for some dialogue - for the
"beginning" of the story.

When the storyboard is finished and approved, students are
ready to write a narrative.
