Identifying Subjects and Verbs
Who's doing what and what's it doing?

Skill #1: Identifying Verbs
Verbs do two things:
1. They show action (run/ran, jump(ed), sing/sung, etc.) (Action Verbs)
2. They show a state of being: is, was, are, were, will be (Linking Verbs)

Skill #2: Identifying Subjects
The subject of the sentence is the thing (person, place or thing) that is doing that action or is being connected to an action with the linking verb (is, was, were, are, will be, has been, have been).
